Carstensz Pyramid Complete

Puncak Jaya or Carstensz Pyramid is one of the world’s Seven Summits – situated in Indonesia, in the province of Papua. Standing on the top of Carstensz Pyramid peak, Nims completes his Seven Summits Challenge. Renowned as a mountaineering feat, adventurers have to summit all seven of the highest peaks on each continent on Earth to complete the challenge. The other peaks are Everest in the Himalayas, Aconcagua in Argentina, South America, Denali in North America, Mt Elbrus in Russia and Vinson Massif in Antarctica. Find out more about the seven summits here.

Now that Nims has done Carstensz Pyramid and finished the Seven Summits Challenge, he is the only person on Earth to have done the Seven Summits plus the 14 highest peaks in the world, both with and without, supplemental oxygen.

One Big Mountain Community – Mingma G and Tejan Gurung

Nims said he was proud to share these incredible moments with his friends and the Big Mountain community. On 4th October 2024 the British-Nepali mountaineer, former Gurkha and UKSF, stood on the summit of Shishapangma with legendry Nepali climber Mingma G and his rope fixing team. They both completed their missions to climb the 14 Peaks without supplementary oxygen. Nims dedicated the new 14 Peaks no Oxygen records to the memory and legacy of Anna Gutu and Mingmar Sherpa who tragically died in the 2023 avalanche. He then returned with a summit plan of October 9th, (his second summit of Shishapangma in five days,) in order to complete his 50 summits of the 8,000m mountains record.

Standing on the summit with Nims on 9th October was former British Commando Tejan Gurung, TJ, who completed his own 14 Peaks journey in 2 years 4 months 13 days, making him the youngest male British 14 peaks summiteer at just 29 years old – as well as the only person from the Gurung community in Nepal to achieve the feat.

Looking to the future of the Big Mountains

Speaking about his new records and what keeps him motivated to keep climbing, Nims said: “Every challenge I do is for a bigger purpose and mission – it is to raise the name of the Big Mountain communities around the world.- to shine a light on the guides, porters and teams that make the impossible, possible for mountaineers each season. We are one mountain community and I am proud to do my part to raise the name of Nepal and all other Big Mountain communities.

“The mountains are my home and I believe we need to all do our part to ensure a thriving and

sustainable community. We need to look to the future and ensure that well-paid and prestigious

jobs are available to the younger generations in the Big Mountains. This will ensure a prosperous

and thriving Big mountain economy for years to come and stop the younger generation feeling he

need to move to the cities to find well-paid and prestigious work. Sustainable, eco-friendly tourism is the future and we all have our part to play in continuing to build that for the future.”
